Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, Morena’s organizing secretary, has been in the spotlight in recent days after missing the Morena National Council due to personal matters.
However, it was revealed that he is in Tokyo, Japan, after journalist Claudio Ochoa shared photographs of the leader on social media while the green-and-red party faces the crisis generated by the accusations against Adán Augusto López and Hernán Bermúdez Requena.
He is also facing other controversies, following the green-and-red party’s results in the last election and his statements, in which he insisted that he doesn’t like being called “Andy.”
During the La Moreniza podcast hosted by Luisa María Alcalde, Morena’s national leader, the former president’s son expressed his annoyance at the articles blaming him for the failure of the judicial election and lashed out at the media for not using his name.
“My name is Andrés Manuel López Beltrán; and my greatest pride is calling myself the best president this country has ever had. Calling me ‘Andy’ is to belittle that, to take away that name, that legacy,” the political scientist explained.
As part of his actions upon assuming the leadership of Morena, López Beltrán spearheaded a massive reaffiliation campaign within the party.
His goal is to strengthen Morena’s membership base and consolidate it as the largest political force in Mexico.
López Beltrán has stated that in the coming years, he will work to expand the party’s membership base and strengthen its internal structure to ensure its continued status as the country’s leading political force.
In September 2024, López Beltrán, known as “Andy” López, was appointed Morena’s Secretary of Organization. Since then, he has faced criticism for being the son of former president and party founder Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as well as questions about his salary.
How much does Andrés Manuel López Beltrán earn in Morena?
Andy López’s salary in Morena has not been officially published.
However, according to the National Transparency Platform, José Alejandro Peña Villa, who served as Secretary of Organization until December 2023, received a gross monthly salary of 87,914.14 pesos.
If Morena maintains a similar salary structure, it is likely that López Beltrán will receive an amount close to that figure in his new position within the party.
So far, Morena has not been entirely clear about the salaries of its leadership, and the available information comes from previous records on the National Transparency Platform.
Since the appointment of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán as Morena’s Secretary of Organization was announced, there have been various reactions.
One of the main topics of debate has been the possible influence of his father, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, within the party and in national politics.
Despite criticism, López Beltrán has maintained an active profile following his father’s retirement from public life.
Some have even speculated that he could be considered as Morena’s presidential candidate for the 2030 elections.
