Last year, romance tourism generated an economic impact of 5.4 billion pesos in Querétaro, stated the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado.
This impact represented an 80% increase compared to the previous period, she noted when reporting figures corresponding to the fourth year of the state administration.
Querétaro is the destination for 3,000 weddings annually, placing the state second in the world, the secretary stated, noting that Jamaica is the first destination with 6,000 weddings annually, double the number of weddings held in the Mexican state. In terms of the number of weddings, she added, the state registered a 66 percent growth.
“As a destination, Querétaro is second in the world after Jamaica, with 3,000 weddings. This is a fact… we have a 66% increase in weddings in the state. This represents 5.4 billion pesos in economic revenue, an 80% increase in overall economic revenue. Jamaica holds first place with 6,000 weddings, followed by Querétaro,” he stated.
In this context, he noted that in September, the state hosted the LAT 2025 Sustainable Weddings and Events Congress.
Around 200 tourism, wedding, and event providers operate in Querétaro to support romance tourism; it also includes a circuit of 80 haciendas, vineyards, and gardens.
Some of the characteristics that distinguish Querétaro as a destination for romance tourism are its Magical Towns, natural settings, historic centers, among others, according to the state agency.
Tourism information from the federal government specifies that romance tourism encompasses not only destination weddings, but also commitment ceremonies, honeymoons, bachelor parties, anniversaries, vow renewals, remarriages, among other activities.
Romance tourism is one of the niches that make up the state’s tourism industry, translating into demand for services; it is one of the fastest-growing segments locally.
Overall, in the last four years, tourism generated an economic impact of 103 billion pesos in the state. During that period, 74 million travelers entered the state and hotel occupancy was 64%, according to information from the state secretariat.
