Another 19 properties expropriated for the Mayan Train: 11.5 hectares

For reasons of public utility, the federal government yesterday decreed the expropriation of 18 additional properties covering 115,428 square meters, located in five states in the southeast of the country, for the construction of three sections of the Mayan Train. In addition, this Wednesday it ordered the expropriation of a new property in Tinum, Yucatán, to be used for the Izamal-Cancún railway.

This Wednesday’s decree establishes that the area to be expropriated has an area of ​​00-03-70 (three areas, seventy centiares, 370 m2) for subdivided use by the Pisté ejido, and whose commercial value amounts to 6,164 pesos.

The total of the two announcements amounts to 11.5798 hectares.

Tuesday’s order includes the buildings and facilities located on private real estate, and the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development proceeded with their immediate occupation.

It states that the land is for the construction of sections 1, 4, and 6 of the Mayan Train. These properties are located as follows: nine in Palenque, Chiapas; three in Escárcega, Campeche; three in Tabasco; two in Yucatán; and one in Bacalar, Quintana Roo.

The decree, which went into effect this Tuesday, did not specify the value of the properties. It only states that the Institute of Administration and Appraisal of National Assets determined the unit value per square meter, and the property owners have ten business days following notification to initiate legal proceedings for the sole purpose of contesting the compensation amount.

Another 00-00-55 hectares of land belonging to the Maxcanú ejido (common land) were also expropriated for the construction of railway infrastructure for the Maya Train project and its complementary works to Section 3 of the Calkiní-Izamal Railway. As compensation, the Maxcanú ejido will receive 4,152.70 pesos.

In another decree, 27-51-70 hectares of rainfed land belonging to the subdivided use were expropriated for Sections 1 of the Palenque-Escárcega Railway and Section 7 of the Chetumal-Escárcega Railway, with a commercial value of 2,985,867 pesos.
