From October 10th to 19th, the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli will host the “Presence of Oaxaca” exhibition, featuring cultural activities, cuisine, and handcrafted products from this southern Mexican state.
At his weekly press conference, “El Poder del Pueblo,” Mayor Daniel Serrano announced the arrival of the Presence of Oaxaca exhibition to Cuautitlán Izcalli. This exhibition is organized by the Patronato Cultural Oaxaqueño (Oaxaca Cultural Trust), an association dedicated to promoting its cultural diversity through the cuisine, crafts, and customs of the state’s different regions.
The administrative director of the Patronato Cultural Oaxaqueño A.C., José Enrique Estefan, offered details about this first-class event coming to Cuautitlán Izcalli, a municipality that defends and promotes the traditions and culture of its indigenous peoples.
“The Guelaguetza is the most representative of the state of Oaxaca, showcasing the dances and traditions of the state’s different regions. Prior to this, the famous Calenda will take place, with parades from the Cumbria and Ensueños neighborhoods to the municipal esplanade,” Estefan announced.
The “Presencia de Oaxaca” exhibition will bring a grand cultural, artisan, and gastronomic celebration to Cuautitlán Izcalli. This free event will take place between October 10 and 19 and will feature approximately 75 artisans from the state of Oaxaca. Among the handmade products for sale are alebrijes, black clay, filigree, textiles, tablecloths, ice cream, and tejate, a pre-Hispanic cocoa-based beverage.
The state’s gastronomic riches will also be present at this event, as delicious dishes based on ingredients characteristic of these regions can be sampled in the traditional dining room, such as mole, tlayudas, chapulines, cheese, and the essential mezcal.
In addition, various artistic performances will be offered Monday through Friday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on weekends from 3:30 p.m., kicking off with the Calendas, which will paint the municipality’s streets with color. Regional music and the Monte Albán Trio will liven up the activities, which also include a variety of workshops.
Starting this Friday, October 10th, and running through October 19th, Izcalli residents can enjoy this free, family-friendly event, held on the Municipal Esplanade. The event also promotes the country’s cultural riches, supports artisanal activities, and brings a slice of tradition, dance, and flavor to this urban region of the State of Mexico.
