Ice cream vendor José Guadalupe is in critical condition after being shot while recording a live video to denounce the poor condition of the road in the community of Urireo, in the municipality of Salvatierra.

The victim has not been able to give a statement to the Public Prosecutor’s Office because he is in “code red,” reported a source from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

It is worth mentioning that a person injured in code red is a patient in critical condition and their life is at risk; they require priority medical attention.

The FGE source revealed that there are several lines of investigation into the attack on José Guadalupe.

One of them is related to preliminary investigation 17877/2014, initiated for the crime of simple homicide.

José Guadalupe was accused of murdering Armando and was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for that crime.

“That is one of the lines of investigation,” the source added.

The Attack

On the Facebook account “Helados Nico,” José Guadalupe was broadcasting live to denounce the potholes on the road in the community of Urireo.

While he was recording, a motorcycle with two men passed by, and the co-pilot pulled out a gun and shot the man.

“Let it remain as a legacy for the people that this fucking government is garbage,” he exclaimed as he fell wounded.

Several people approached to help him, and he sent a message to his wife: “Take care of my children, sweetheart, educate them, I’m dying.”

The Salvatierra government, led by Morena mayor José Daniel Sámano Jiménez, issued a statement condemning the attack on the man in the community of Urireo.

“This violent act threatens the tranquility of our communities and demands a firm response from the competent authorities,” he stated.

He added that, in light of the accusations made on social media, he reaffirms his commitment to the rule of law.

“The State Attorney General’s Office is requested to expedite the investigation to find those materially responsible for the attack and bring them to justice,” he urged.
