AMLO knew about the fiscal fuel theft: The letter that would prove the warning to the president

The case of the uncovered fuel theft network in Tamaulipas continues to reveal “compromising” situations for the government of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Now, an Aristegui Noticias investigation has leaked a document that the former governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, allegedly handed over to the Ministry of the Interior under former President López Obrador, which was headed by Olga Sánchez Cordero, currently a Morena representative.

In this document, Cabeza de Vaca allegedly warned of the corruption network originating in the state he led.

According to Aristegui Noticias, PAN member Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca denounced the presence of criminal leaders linked to fuel theft, and therefore requested support from federal institutions to execute the corresponding arrest warrants.

According to Official Document No. O.E. /040/2020, written on July 8, 2020, the former governor warned the then-president that:

“For many years, local authorities were part of the problem. Mayors and governors tolerated, protected, and, in some cases, colluded with criminal organizations,” reads an excerpt from the document.

“Institutional complicity is undoubtedly one of the causes of the violence that erupted in the state, because criminals (…) managed to penetrate and capture the government structures that should protect citizens,” the document states.

The document received by the then-Secretary of the Interior detailed the names of drug lords and operations of the Gulf Cartel and the Northeast Cartel.

According to Aristegui Noticias, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca also delivered the document directly to Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Government Released Detainees

According to Aristegui Noticias, the former governor explained to AMLO that there were cases in which criminals captured by the Tamaulipas government were released by federal authorities.

“I must emphasize that during my administration, some arrests have been made by the federal government, but unfortunately, they resulted in the release of the alleged criminals. Thanks to the support of the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office,” Carmen Aristegui read.

The document reportedly detailed the individual cases, including the names and surnames of the alleged criminals.

Because of this, the former governor of Tamaulipas requested AMLO’s support from federal institutions “in accordance with the principles of concurrence and collaboration in matters of security.”

“I respectfully request that you forward your esteemed instructions to the relevant agencies and entities, so that the Federation may contribute to the search and capture efforts for the aforementioned individuals and, therefore, to the execution of the judicially issued arrest warrants,” it reads.

Cabeza de Vaca, a politically persecuted person of AMLO

The relationship between the former governor and the former president is not the best. A few days ago, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, who currently resides in the United States, accused Andrés Manuel López Obrador of “political persecution,” claiming that he fabricated crimes against him.

“I am not going to give them the pleasure of going to Mexico so they can continue fabricating crimes against me. (…) I am a politically persecuted person; that is public knowledge. Because of López Obrador, he is behind many of the current operations in our country. He manipulates through Public Prosecutors,” the former official accused in an interview with Mónica Garza.
