Almost a year after its reopening following rescue and restoration work, the Casa del Marino Museum will commemorate its first year of operation with a highly significant event: the keynote lecture “Formation, Evolution, and Trajectory of Tropical Cyclones in the Northern Pacific Ocean.”
The public is invited to attend this important talk this Wednesday, October 15th, at 5:00 PM. Admission is free. The keynote speaker will be Captain Luis Fabián Ramírez García, an expert on the subject, whose presentation seeks to provide a deeper understanding of these natural phenomena.
The lecture will address the crucial importance of understanding tropical cyclones. Knowledge of these events is not only vital to protecting lives and property by preparing for the risk of serious damage, but also to understanding their ecological function. Cyclones play an essential role in temperature regulation, drought mitigation, and the revitalization of coastal ecosystems.
The session will feature a special presentation by Enrique Vega Ayala, Mazatlán’s official chronicler. Vega’s historical knowledge will enrich the afternoon, providing invaluable context on the city’s interaction with these phenomena over time.
A Year of Maritime History and Culture
The Casa del Marino and the 31 de Marzo Fort, considered buildings of cultural value by the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), were reopened on October 14, 2024, after months of restoration. Since then, they have established themselves as a fundamental space for the dissemination of Mazatlán’s maritime history and culture.
Admission to this Keynote Lecture is free, with limited seating. Those interested are encouraged to arrive early, as the event will last approximately 60 minutes.
