On Tuesday night, armed individuals caused panic in Plaza Las Américas in Cancún after attempting to rob a jewelry store belonging to a well-known company that has previously been the target of similar attacks.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the 911 emergency number received reports of gunshots inside the shopping center. Visitors and employees were evacuated as a precaution due to the initial confusion.

Minutes later, authorities ruled out any gunshots, clarifying that the explosion was due to the strong blows the criminals had struck the jewelry store’s display cases in an attempt to break the glass and steal valuable jewelry.

According to preliminary information, the assailants managed to steal several pieces before escaping, making this the fourth attempted or reported robbery of a jewelry store in Cancún in 2025.

Witnesses reported that three men participated in the robbery and, after completing their task, used different exits from the shopping center to mislead the police.

Municipal Police and National Guard officers cordoned off the area while forensics from the State Attorney General’s Office processed the scene to gather evidence and review security camera footage.

Although no injuries were reported, the incident generated tense moments between customers and employees, many of whom sought shelter in nearby buildings.
