The landslide on State Highway 100 could have been caused by micro-earthquakes, according to the Secretary of Urban Development and Public Works, Pío X Salgado Tovar.
He said that experts from Anáhuac University and experts have visited the area to verify this information and rule out risks.
“There are several conditions affecting it. One is humidity. The humidity has weakened the soil’s cohesion, and that is one cause. Another cause is occurring in the mountains, and we are going to analyze this with the university, Anáhuac, and some experts. There are some small signs of micro-earthquakes.”
However, another cause could have been the humidity caused by the constant rains in recent weeks in the state.
This landslide, which occurred on State Highway 100 at kilometer 43+900, blocked the entire roadway, and its clearance is estimated to take at least another week.
“The report is good, but if the magnitude of the impact still requires a week, we believe it could be released. Although they are working very quickly, it could be sooner.”
