Starting December 2, Viva Aerobus will resume its Tampico–Villahermosa route, suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic.
The new connection will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at a cost of approximately two thousand pesos per ticket.
The announcement was made by Walfred Castro Novelo, the company’s Director of Corporate Communications, who emphasized that this reopening will strengthen air connectivity, tourism, and the regional economy.
“It’s a route that’s back to stay. Today, the people of Tampico once again have a direct connection to the south of the country, and that generates business opportunities and family reconnection,” he stated.
The presentation was attended by Mónica Villarreal Anaya, Mayor of Tampico; María Cavazos Bustamante, Undersecretary of Tourism of Tamaulipas; Karime Cámara Chaín, director of municipal tourism, and Éder Jiménez León, administrator of the city’s airport.

Castro Novelo noted that Viva Aerobus has transported more than 2.2 million passengers from Tampico, and that the company celebrates 19 years of operations in Mexico this year.
“Our fleet, the most modern in the country with 101 Airbus aircraft, allows us to offer comfortable, safe flights at affordable prices,” he emphasized.
With this reactivation, Tampico adds five active routes with Viva Aerobus: Monterrey, Guadalajara, Cancún, Mexico City (AIFA), and now Villahermosa.
The company is confident that traveler acceptance will allow for an increase in frequencies in the short term: “The success of each route depends on the passengers. The more they fly, the more connectivity we can offer,” said the executive.
The return of the Tampico-Villahermosa flight not only expands the air travel offering but also strengthens economic ties between the north and south of the country, especially in sectors such as energy and tourism, where both cities maintain strong business activity.
