Civil Protection authorities announced that a minor died after sustaining injuries in the accident that caused a landslide in the Mazatec community of Agua de la Rosa, in Huautla de Jiménez.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, October 21, when the hill broke loose and collapsed on several houses, leaving six people injured and causing the death of a seven-year-old girl. Several houses were also damaged by debris and large rocks.

Three of the injured were transported by ambulance to a medical center in the city of Tehuacán, Puebla, and two others remain in the Mexican Social Security Institute Hospital No. 43 in Huautla.

The landslide occurred near the cemetery, on the road that connects the towns of Agua de la Rosa and Agua de Hueso, in the municipality of Huautla de Jiménez, in the Sierra Mazateca. In this region of Oaxaca, the rains continued for more than 24 hours, causing the ground to soften.

“The CEPCyGR (Central Park of the State of Oaxaca) is in constant communication with local and regional authorities to assess the damage and provide comprehensive emergency response,” authorities said in a statement.

Meanwhile, this Tuesday, the amount of rainfall is expected to be lower compared to previous days. This is due to a low-pressure area with the potential for cyclonic development south of the Oaxaca coast, they reported.
