The “Together We Do More” group and the Archdiocese of León are collecting supplies following the heavy rains that hit central-eastern Mexico in Veracruz, Puebla, and Querétaro.
The “Together We Do More” campaign will take place from October 20 to 28, while the Archdiocese will hold its collection on October 26.
The federal government confirmed the death toll of 70 people, in addition to thousands of victims, isolated communities, and extensive damage to homes, roads, basic services, and productive activities.
Jennifer Gutiérrez, head of Training and Culture at the Aumovio plant in Las Colinas, reported that the “Together We Are Stronger” group seeks to support those affected.
“We’re in the month of living our corporate values, and we had other ideas for how to live our value, ‘together we are stronger.’ After seeing that our fellow Mexicans are going through a terrible time in Veracruz, Puebla, and Querétaro due to the floods, we decided to redesign our campaign. What better way to live our value than by making those who need it most stronger,” she mentioned.
She explained that the HR team, together with ESH and under the leadership of Juan De Dios Piña, is carrying out this social work from morning to night.
The recommended supplies include non-perishable food, clothing in good condition, basic hygiene items, general medical supplies, and if you have shovels or tools you no longer use, they are also welcome.
We are supporting the state DIF (National Fund for the Promotion of Family Welfare) at the Bicentennial Park Guanajuato collection center. At the moment, no other companies have joined, but I would love for them to do so in support of this cause. Jennifer Gutiérrez
The Archdiocese of León announced that Caritas Mexico, together with the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM), has requested support from the country’s various dioceses to address the emergency.
After learning the facts and speaking with the bishops of the Bajío Province, especially Bishop Fidencio López Plaza of Querétaro, the head of the Diocese’s Social Ministry, and with Father Martín Alfonso Jasso, head of Caritas León, it was decided that a special collection would be held in parishes and rectories on Sunday, October 26, with the proceeds being promptly transferred to the Diocesan Treasury.
The entire collection that day will be donated to the Diocese of Querétaro, where some municipalities were severely affected by the recent rains, and will be used to help cover the population’s primary needs.
