How did the argument between Fátima Bosch and the Thai organizer begin?
The incident occurred during the sash presentation ceremony, prior to the final competition. According to witnesses, the man specifically approached Fátima and aggressively questioned her about why she wasn’t posting content on her social media promoting Thailand, the host country.
Clearly angry, Nawat confronted the model, telling her he knew she wouldn’t post anything about his country, and demanded a definitive answer.
The Tabasco native tried to explain that it was all a misunderstanding; however, the regional organizer persisted and asked if she was willing to follow his instructions and work to promote Thailand, to which she replied, “Yes, of course, yes.”
Itsaragrisil linked the matter to a previous dispute with the national director of Mexico, whom he mentioned had been expelled from the country and insulted the Mexican woman: “You’re too ‘airheaded’ to be queen. If you follow your national director’s orders, you’re ‘airheaded.’”
“How many countries don’t work with me? Can you remember which country? (…) He asked you to promote a video this morning, but you said no. Hold your hand, hold your hand please, I have your list,” Nawat told Fatima.
How did Fatima Bosch leave the international event?
When she tried to express her feelings, he said: “I haven’t given you a chance to speak, please sit down (…) I’m still talking, listen, I’m still talking, I don’t know why you got up to talk to me.”
Fatima said: “Because I have a voice,” to which he replied: “No, you have a voice, but you have to respect.”
Faced with the public humiliation, Fatima Bosch raised her voice and left the venue, amid shouts from Itsaragrisil demanding that security stop her.
“No, no, why are you getting up, why are you getting up, Security!” the organizer yelled, to which Fatima replied, “As women, we deserve respect, we have to demand respect. I am here representing a country, and it is not my fault that you have a problem with my organization.”
Fatima continued toward the exit, at which point the man demanded, “Stop, stop, security. Stop!” and threatened, “Sit down, if you want to continue in the competition, sit down… if you leave… the rest of you, sit down.”
What did Fatima Bosch say as she left the international event?
After the altercation, Fatima met with the media and offered her version of events: “What the director did was disrespectful. He called me stupid because he has problems with the organization, and I don’t think that’s fair.”
“I’m here, and I do everything right. I don’t bother anyone; I just try to be kind and do my best, and he attacked me. He said a lot of things to me,” Fatima stated.
Bosch also emphasized that her stance is not only personal but also a defense of respect for women within the pageant: “I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and this is a platform for our voices. No one can silence us; no one can do that to me.”
She concluded, “It doesn’t matter if they have a big dream, if they have a crown; if that takes away their dignity, they should leave.”
What will happen to Fatima Bosch in the international beauty pageant?
A little calmer, Fatima confirmed that she will remain in the competition until the end: “I just want to tell my whole country that I’m here. I’m not afraid to raise my voice. I’m stronger than ever. I have a purpose, I have things to say.”
“We’re in the 21st century, and I’m not a doll. I’m not a doll to be constantly getting my hair done, my makeup done, and my clothes changed. I came here to represent all the women and girls who fight for a cause and to tell my country that I’m completely committed to this, just like on day one, and as long as there’s Miss Universe, they’ll have a representative,” Fatima commented.
Fatima Bosch, the Mexican representative, in addition to receiving support from Miss Mexico, who issued a statement backing her actions, also received support from her fellow contestants.
What did Nawat Itsaragrisil say after the confrontation with Fatima Bosch?
