The leader of the Hat Movement in Pátzcuaro, José Antonio Arreola, declared that Grecia Itzel Quiroz García, the current mayor of Uruapan, “has all the potential to be the next governor of Michoacán” in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

Arreola emphasized that Quiroz has assumed the political mantle following the assassination of her husband, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, and highlighted her trajectory within the movement:

“I believe that if we continue doing things right, if the municipality of Uruapan continues working as Carlos Manzo was doing, (Grecia Quiroz) has all the potential to be the next governor of Michoacán.”

Arreola also praised her decision to take the reins of the municipality amidst the grief:

“Despite the fact that her husband, the father of her children, was murdered… she took the reins. And I believe… I am convinced that it was the best decision to propose her… She is educated, she has the capabilities, and she has just shown me that she has the determination to continue Carlos Manzo’s legacy.”

This public endorsement marks a key political moment for the Hat Movement, whose base in Uruapan focuses on denouncing insecurity, combating corruption, and ties to organized crime. Arreola confirmed that the movement maintains its independent character and asked that it not be politicized for partisan purposes.
