Querétaro ranks seventh in innovation and economy

Querétaro ranks seventh nationally in innovation and economy, according to the State Competitiveness Index of the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO).

The index highlights that the state is in the upper-middle range of competitiveness, just behind Mexico City, which ranked first, followed by Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Baja California Sur, and Querétaro.

During the 2025 evaluation, the state climbed two places nationally, moving from ninth place in innovation and economy in 2024 to seventh in 2025.

The state reached third place in this indicator in the State Competitiveness Index in 2017, and fourth place nationally in 2021.

The state excelled in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, ranking seventh nationally, which is its highest-rated indicator.

It also stands out for its merchandise exports, ranking ninth nationally, as well as for patents, with 1.97 applications per 100,000 inhabitants.

Similarly, tourism GDP places the state tenth nationally. Furthermore, GDP growth places the state thirteenth nationally based on the average growth rate over the last three years.

Meanwhile, economic diversification places the state fourteenth nationally due to the number of sectors present in its economy.

The indicator in which Querétaro receives its lowest rating is the energy intensity of its economy, ranking the state twentieth nationally.
