Get ready for Ballena Fest 2025, an event in the beautiful and paradisiacal bay of Puerto Ángel, on the coast of Oaxaca.
This festival pays homage to nature, culture, and tourism, celebrating the spectacular arrival of humpback whales to these crystal-clear waters.
It will take place from December 5th to 7th, 2025, in the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, a charming fishing village famous for its beautiful beaches and tranquil cliffs.
What to do at Ballena Fest?
These three days are filled with celebration against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean:
Free concerts: Enjoy music and coastal festivities with live performances and dancing under the stars.
Workshops: There will be academic talks, forums, and workshops to raise awareness about the preservation of marine life, especially humpback whales. Unique Experiences: This festival takes place because of the annual migration of humpback whales to the Oaxacan coast, so you can witness an exciting sighting of these giant animals and even dolphins.
Delicious Gastronomy and Culture: Delight in the flavors of Oaxaca’s coastal cuisine, such as seafood tamales, ceviches, tlayudas, and pescado a la talla (grilled fish).
Why is whale watching so magical?
This is an event of unparalleled beauty because it combines the majesty of these marine giants with the idyllic landscape of Puerto Ángel’s beaches. During this season, you can see the whales breaching out of the water.
Humpback whales are known as “the singers of the ocean” because the males emit the longest and most complex vocalizations in the animal kingdom to attract females.
