Dozens of residents of Llano Grande blocked the Pan-American Highway, halting all vehicular traffic from the Isthmus region to the city of Oaxaca. Authorities confirmed there are no alternative routes.

The residents of Llano Grande demanded that the mayor of Santa María Jalapa del Marqués, Leticia Sibaja Mendoza (Morena party), release funds from Fund III so they can carry out previously prioritized infrastructure projects.

The road blockade was set up around 8:00 a.m. at the location known as Llano Grande, on Highway 190 Pan-American Highway at kilometer 214, on the Magdalena Tequisistlán-Tehuantepec section.

Because the Mitla-Tehuantepec highway has remained closed since last June, hundreds of cars, passenger buses, and trucks began forming a long line of vehicles on the highway.

During her first 10 months as mayor of Jalapa del Marqués, Leticia Sibaja Mendoza has faced a series of protests, demands, and road blockades related to water supply and public works projects.
