Corruption persists at Veracruz High Specialty Hospital: workers

The complainants requested anonymity for fear of reprisals and accused the head of Material Resources, Nélida Cristina Soriano Ramírez, of maintaining the same irregular practices that characterized the administration of former director Marcela Yáñez Tapia, who was removed months ago following numerous allegations.

According to internal testimonies, Soriano Ramírez operates under the same scheme of inflating invoices, favoring suppliers, and maintaining a network of complicity that, they assert, directly affects the hospital’s budget and operations.

The accusations include alleged nepotism, as the official is the wife of the hospital’s Transportation Director, Juan Manuel Zamudio Fonseca, which, according to employees, has solidified a circle of protection and silence within various operational areas.

The complaints indicate that the administrative change following Marcela Yáñez Tapia’s departure did not bring about the expected purging of corruption. On the contrary, they claim that Nélida Cristina Soriano has replicated the same patterns that led to the former administrator being publicly scrutinized.

It’s worth recalling that during Yáñez Tapia’s tenure and that of the current head of material resources, the scandal erupted involving expired medication found in the hospital courtyards, as well as the purchase of “purified” water from a company of dubious origin. This product did not meet the quality standards required for healthcare institutions and violated current state regulations.

Workers assert that several of Yáñez’s close associates remain active and protected within the structure led by Soriano Ramírez, despite their history and the reputational damage inflicted on the hospital.

Staff at the Veracruz High Specialty Hospital have made a direct appeal to the authorities to intervene immediately and thoroughly review the administrative operations. They believe that the continuation of outdated practices opens the door to new irregularities that jeopardize transparency, the quality of service, and the resources allocated to medical care.

“This hospital needs order, oversight, and honest officials. We can’t continue with the same people who damaged this institution,” workers stated.
