Femicides are the ultimate expression of gender-based violence and constitute one of Mexico’s most pressing problems.

Despite all the reforms and laws aimed at guaranteeing women a life free from violence, an average of approximately 10 women still die violently each day.

A breakdown by state shows that Morelos has the highest rate of femicides relative to its total population: 3 cases registered for every 100,000 women, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

Other states with high rates of femicide per 100,000 women include Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Campeche, and Tabasco.
