Flight cancellations are expected to affect several airports this weekend, including Los Cabos, La Paz, and Tijuana, after Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) confirmed that a mandatory software update for Airbus A320 aircraft is causing immediate adjustments to its operations.
The announcement comes after Airbus issued a statement requesting all operators of the A320 family to immediately perform the software update, a measure that adheres to international safety protocols. GAP indicates that the impacts will be concentrated between Saturday and Sunday, when airlines implement most of the technical maintenance.
Airlines such as Viva and Volaris, which operate regularly in Los Cabos, La Paz, and Tijuana, are reporting potential flight cancellations and schedule adjustments. Both companies are communicating with passengers to provide updates and offer alternatives to mitigate the impact.
GAP affirms that passenger safety is its top priority and supports the preventative measures adopted by the airlines. At all three terminals, Passenger Assistance staff are assisting those affected by flight cancellations, providing information and support, especially during peak tourist hours.
Travelers are advised to stay in direct contact with their airline and check their flight status before arriving at the terminal.
It’s worth noting that GAP manages the airports in Los Cabos and La Paz, and Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta, and other destinations are also experiencing disruptions.
In the case of Tijuana, one of the busiest international airports in the Northwest, the combination of cross-border traffic and affected airline operations increases the likelihood of delays, requiring passengers to plan their trips in advance.
GAP reminds passengers that this situation is not limited to Baja California Sur and Tijuana, as it is part of a global process stemming from the software update that all Airbus A320 aircraft must implement as part of an international air safety guideline.
