During a patrol, officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security arrested an individual in the Paseos del Mar area of Cancún. The intervention occurred after officers observed a man handling small bags containing substances that, upon inspection, turned out to be marijuana and a white powder resembling cocaine. The individual, a Venezuelan national, was also carrying a backpack containing several portions of drugs and a cell phone, items which were seized for further analysis.
The detainee was turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking, which will continue the corresponding investigations. These actions are part of an ongoing strategy to reduce drug use and sales in residential areas, contributing to maintaining security in the municipality of Benito Juárez. The presence of these substances in residential areas highlights the persistent problem of drug trafficking in the region and the need to continue coordinated operations.
Furthermore, specialists point out that the control of illicit trafficking in Cancun reflects a comprehensive effort to strengthen public safety in the state of Quintana Roo, in a context where tourism and economic activity demand safe environments free of drug-related violence.
