Farmers’ blockade paralyzes the Celaya-Apaseo el Grande highway, leaving dozens unable to enter or leave the city

Little by little, the line of vehicles stretched for several kilometers along the Celaya-Apaseo el Grande highway. Trucks, passenger vans, and private cars were unable to proceed due to the farmers’ blockade.

Motorists told El Sol del Bajío that they were unaware of the blockade and headed towards Querétaro, wondering how long it would last, as some had just left their workplaces.

Personnel transport trucks were stranded on the side of the road, unable to reach the companies to pick up workers.

Some of the vehicles tried to turn around via the underpass near San Juan del Llano, but those that joined the traffic on the overpass became stuck.

The total blockade began at 4:00 PM on various highways in Guanajuato as part of the farmers’ protests against the reform to the National Water Law and the lack of agreements between their leaders and federal authorities.

Dozens of people have been unable to enter or leave Celaya due to the blockade of Highways 45 and 45D; others are seeking dirt roads to continue their journeys, while still others have begun driving in the opposite direction.

So far, the farmers have not specified how many hours they will continue blocking the roads, as they await instructions from their leaders in Mexico City, hoping to be heard and reach an agreement.

This is how the protests over the Water Law are affecting highways in five states.

It should be noted that, due to traffic, it was not possible to reach the farmers’ group to determine how much longer the highway will remain closed.
