The head of the Morelia Culture Secretariat reported that there have been no contacts from federal authorities regarding the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice.
Morelia, Michoacán; December 3, 2025 – The Morelia Culture Secretariat has not had any contact with federal authorities to implement the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, according to its head, Fátima Chávez Alcaraz.
“Well, they haven’t had any concrete contact with the Culture Secretariat yet. I know they’ve been meeting with artists. And well, we are willing to collaborate in whatever is necessary; and we have been working on peacebuilding for many years, and we will continue working in this direction. It is work that undoubtedly contributes to this project (Michoacán Plan),” she stated.
She emphasized that they have prioritized actions and activities that promote peacebuilding and the rebuilding of the social fabric, independently of the federal strategy.
The agency has not received federal funding, except for collaborations with the Federal Government or the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE).
Despite the situation, the official emphasized that there has always been a good relationship and coordination on cultural public policy between the agency and the federal government.
“I believe we have always had a very good relationship, very good coordination, and that’s how it should be; it shouldn’t be anything new that they work together at all levels of government. Even the funding is structured this way: the Federal Government allocates certain resources to the states for the municipalities, and this coordination is necessary. And we have always had very good coordination with the State Secretariat of Culture,” she explained.
Following the presentation of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice on November 4th by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, meetings have been held between cabinet secretaries and state and municipal officials, as well as representatives of social, professional, and community groups and segments, to gather their needs and projects.
