The Oaxaca State Tourism Secretariat (Sectur Oaxaca) invites the public to enjoy the first edition of Ballena Fest 2025, which will be held from December 5 to 7 in Puerto Ángel, part of San Pedro Pochutla.
The agency indicated that the humpback whale watching season has already begun on the Oaxacan coast, and to highlight the importance of these mammals in marine ecosystems and promote their preservation, the event will feature a series of scientific, cultural, sporting, and artistic activities.
This Friday, at 4:30 p.m., a cultural parade will take place, followed by the official opening at 5:40 p.m. In the following days, there will be culinary competitions, sports tournaments, environmental education workshops, and concerts. The complete program can be found on the official Sectur Oaxaca Facebook page.
Those who attend will learn more about the humpback whale, specimens that can reach up to 15 meters in length and that travel each year from cold waters to warmer areas towards Central America, and that during their passage through the Coast can be observed in courtship, reproduction, feeding or the birth of their young.
