The government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, will soon install four new sculptures in the iconic Punta Sur Sculpture Park, enriching the cultural and tourist experience at one of the destination’s most popular spots.
These new pieces—The Dancing Woman, The Shaman (Mayan Priest), The Flower Offerer, and a new representation of the Goddess Ixchel, conceived from nature and the birth of life—will join the 17 sculptures that currently make up this open-air art corridor.
The Director of Government, Dube Delgado Moguel, emphasized that this sculpture park was rehabilitated at the beginning of the current administration, after years of neglect under previous governments.
Since its restoration, continuous improvements have been made to ensure the park remains dignified, accessible, and attractive for both residents and visitors.
The installation of the new artworks will be part of this ongoing effort to strengthen the cultural, tourist, and scenic value of the area.
The municipal official also emphasized that the park continues to establish itself as a key point for promoting tourism in the municipality.
Delgado Miguel reiterated that Punta Sur will continue to receive constant maintenance so that it can continue to consolidate itself as a space that celebrates the island’s identity, its ancestral history, and the natural wealth that surrounds it.
In that same vein, it was noted that a few months ago the photo opportunity was installed, which is now one of the most popular spots for capturing images of the sunrise and the cliff, attracting national and international visitors daily.
The sculptures, inspired by female figures, rituals, and symbols of the Mayan worldview, project the spirit of the island and the vision of a government committed to preserving its roots.
With these actions, Punta Sur continues to be a vibrant setting that honors the beauty of Isla Mujeres for island families and thousands of visitors.
