Anti-street vending operation sparks altercation in the Historic Center of Querétaro

A supervisory tour of the streets and walkways of Querétaro’s Historic Center ended in an altercation between street vendors and operational personnel from the Inspection Directorate of the Municipal Government Secretariat.

The confrontation occurred when the public servants attempted to remove vendors who were in front of the Government Palace, located on 5 de Mayo Street. Within seconds, the brawl erupted.

After requesting reinforcements, a security operation was activated to secure the area. This led to the removal of vendors involved in the altercation, some of whom sustained injuries. Others, however, remained at the scene.

According to the city council, the incident in Querétaro’s Historic Center resulted in five injured inspectors; three of them with serious injuries. The injured personnel received medical attention and were referred to the appropriate agencies for evaluation and follow-up. No arrests have been reported as a result of the conflict.

Finally, the municipal government stated its commitment to validating the regulations and implementing the “Order Plan,” instructed by Mayor Felifer Macías.
