A confrontation between state police and armed civilians on Sunday, December 7, left five suspected criminals dead in the municipality of Los Ramones, Nuevo León.

The State Public Security Secretariat reported the events stemming from Operation Muralla, which led to the location of the alleged members of the Northeast Cartel. When surprised, the suspects attacked the officers.

The police returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange, five suspected criminals were killed.

Authorities also reported the seizure of a pickup truck, five rifles, various magazines, ammunition, and tactical gear, according to preliminary information.

During the incident, a person who was allegedly being held captive was rescued.

Last Friday, the State Secretary of Public Security, Gerardo Escamilla, presented the monthly report on the achievements of Operation Muralla, which aims to contain the advance of organized crime in the state’s metropolitan area.

He indicated that during the month of November, thanks to the operation, 279 people were arrested, 52 vehicles were seized, and 13 firearms were confiscated.

Since February 5, when Operation Northern Border began, agreed upon with U.S. President Donald Trump to stem the “invasion” of migrants and drugs and thus avoid the imposition of 25% tariffs on Mexican goods, Mexico has arrested 9,735 people and seized 7,258 firearms.
