The Mexican government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), with the “General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” Plan in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca, has completed the expansion, maintenance, and modernization of 644 kilometers of a total of 820 kilometers of road infrastructure, representing 78 percent progress.
The 2025-2026 program includes projects on 1,086 kilometers with an investment of 5.981 billion pesos, benefiting 4 million inhabitants of the region.
The objective of these actions is to reduce poverty and social inequality in the Oaxacan community through a comprehensive approach focused on addressing social, economic, and environmental conditions.
This year, the 820 kilometers under rehabilitation are being carried out across nine work fronts with an investment of 2.663 billion pesos.
The SICT (Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation) indicates that these projects include the modernization and reconstruction of 240 kilometers and the maintenance of 580 kilometers, of which 145 kilometers of routine maintenance have already been completed.
The remaining 266 kilometers will be addressed by 2026: 120 km under reconstruction, 116 km under maintenance, and 30 km under construction, with an estimated investment of 3.318 billion pesos.
The road infrastructure projects underway in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca this year are between 47 and 100 percent complete:
Huajuapan de León-Oaxaca – Section: Nochixtlán-Huajuapan MEX-190. Maintenance | 88 km | 308 million pesos | 79% complete.
Tehuacán-Puebla/Oaxaca State Line-Chazumba-Huajuapan de León – MEX-125. Maintenance | 64 km | 254 million pesos | Progress 81%.
Huajuapan-Mariscala-Tamazola – Silacayoápam-E.C. – (Huajuapan-Juxtlahuaca) Conservation | 157 km | 644 million pesos | Progress 78%.
Huajuapan-Tlacotepec-Juxtlahuaca-El Carrizal-Putla de Guerrero MEX-125 Conservation | 160km | 425 million pesos | Progress 67%.

In 2026, construction will begin on the Metlatonoc-Cochoapa el Grande – E.C.-Alacatlazala/Chilixtlahuaca highway.
The “General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” Plan for the Mixteca region for the period 2025-2026 is an infrastructure and development strategy that will improve road safety and reduce travel times for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Mixe region of Oaxaca.
