The government of San Luis Potosí announced the construction of 15 checkpoints at the main entrances to the state and the metropolitan area.
With a state investment exceeding 200 million pesos, these checkpoints will incorporate facial recognition technology, canine units, state-of-the-art cameras, and complete operational areas.
What will the checkpoints be like?
Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona highlighted that construction of the first two checkpoints will begin in January, on the federal highways to Matehuala and Zacatecas, while the rest will be built in the coming months.
Each checkpoint will include restrooms for users, offices, a cafeteria, rest areas for personnel, a holding cell, and a coordinated presence of the State Civil Guard, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the Ministry of National Defense (Defensa).
Criminal Gangs Will Be Blocked
Gallardo emphasized that, for decades, criminal gangs from other states took advantage of the lack of security checks to enter, commit crimes, and leave without consequences, a situation that will now be completely eliminated with the installation of these checkpoints.
He also highlighted internal reform as key to reducing crime, with 800 officers dismissed in four years for failing to fulfill their duties.
He celebrated the fact that more than 450 women have joined the Civil Guard, achieving top rankings in marksmanship and efficiency, and announced that the 911 emergency service will be reinforced with new geolocation software that will allow them to respond to all legitimate calls and penalize false ones.
