The Undersecretary of Culture of the State Government of Colima, through the Department of Children’s and Youth Culture, inaugurated the collective mural “Trazos y Letras” (Lines and Letters) in the Arts Wagon, located at the State House of Culture.

This work is the final result of the “Coloring the Wagon” workshop, an initiative carried out with support from the Alas y Raíces (Wings and Roots) program of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, in coordination with the state administration headed by Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva.

Created with the participation of children, coordinated by the interdisciplinary artists Andrea Isabel, Mar de Volcán, and Katia Seichel, the mural “Trazos y Letras” pays homage to the Colima poets Krishna Naranjo, Guillermina Cuevas, Nadia Contreras, and Rosario Gutiérrez, as a way to highlight the literary, cultural, and artistic contributions of women in the state of Colima.

Artist Mar de Volcán mentioned that engaging with the poets’ texts allowed her to imagine, using selected fragments, the images they evoked to create the mural. Andrea Isabel added, “We are the ones who set an example that children can be part of the creative process, and we also demonstrate that community spaces can be cared for so that others can visit them.”

The state Department of Culture aims to ensure that the Arts Wagon continues to be a space that allows children to experiment with different creative techniques and explore artistic disciplines with complete freedom. It also serves as a breeding ground for new talent, allowing children to dream of becoming the future artists of Colima.
