ALL CHECKPOINTS IN SONORA WILL BE REMOVED

All checkpoints in the state will be removed, at least those set up by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the State Security Commission (CEVSE), and the so-called “Harfuch checkpoints.” This follows an agreement between authorities to stop harassing locals and other drivers on the highways.

The decision was made considering the significant improvement in the security situation. After almost a year, the conflict between criminal groups has practically ended, thank God, and the roads are now clear. The stretch from San Luis Río Colorado to Santa Ana is practically clean, a stark contrast to last year.
Checkpoints will be removed along the entire length of Federal Highway 15, which crosses Sonora, throughout the remainder of December and all of January, allowing for smoother traffic flow and fewer stops.

It’s also been mentioned that the checkpoints known as “Harfuch’s,” those with the black and white patrol cars that were causing so much trouble for people throughout the state, will no longer be operating. This represents another achievement for the authorities in ensuring free passage for Mexicans and the general public.

And while many people were annoyed by the checkpoints, it’s also true that as citizens we often asked for more security. Sometimes we’re labeled as good or bad, but we have to understand: all of this is part of a government strategy. Today, conditions are different, and that’s why the measures are being adjusted, seeking a balance between security and allowing people to move around freely without having their lives disrupted.
