With an investment of approximately 24 million pesos, the Mazatlán government launched a project to resurface several sections of streets and avenues on the morning of Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez led the groundbreaking ceremony for this large-scale project, which includes the almost simultaneous rehabilitation of 22 strategic sections in the urban area. The goal is to improve mobility and maintain the municipality’s busiest roads in good condition.
The work began on a section of Juan Pablo II Avenue, at the intersection of Sagitario and Leo streets, near the José Vasconcelos High School. There, the mayor, accompanied by the Director of Public Works, Cristina Ovalle Acosta, and the Director of Public Services, Karla Angélica Camacho Guzmán, emphasized that this resurfacing program is part of a comprehensive vision for the city, aiming for an orderly and efficient Mazatlán, with socially conscious projects that are well-executed, honest, and serve everyone.
“This is essential to end the year on a high note. We will be making Mazatlán’s streets dignified, improving traffic flow on its avenues, and this is thanks to the efficient and transparent use of public funds. We have been able to achieve these savings and complete these much-needed projects for the people of Mazatlán by the end of the year.”
The mayor added that this resurfacing work on main streets will allow citizens to drive more safely and efficiently. This will also benefit all public transportation, further boosting the city’s economy.
Some residents of the area where the asphalt rehabilitation began on 22 sections of streets in Mazatlán requested that the mayor install speed bumps to encourage drivers to reduce their speed and allow pedestrians to cross Juan Pablo II Avenue safely.
How long will the work take?
Mayor Estrella Palacios, in an interview after the groundbreaking ceremony for the resurfacing program, assured residents that the work will only take 15 days and asked for their patience and understanding.
