As part of efforts to strengthen international air connectivity, flights began operating on December 12th on the new direct air route between Nuevo León International Airport and New York City (JFK), operated by Viva Airlines.
The new connection operates in its first phase from December 12th to January 11th and, due to the positive response from passengers, will have a daily frequency.
According to reports, the route will return permanently in June 2026.
This connection expands travel options between Nuevo León and one of the world’s leading urban and tourist centers, and is part of the effort to strengthen the state’s air connectivity.
The Secretary of Tourism for Nuevo León, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, stated:
“This new route is a direct gateway to the international stage, putting Nuevo León in the global spotlight. Especially now, in the context of one of the events that will bring the most visitors to our state, this connection represents more tourism, more business opportunities, and more possibilities for the people of Nuevo León. We are moving forward, preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
For his part, Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Grupo Viva Aerobus, affirmed:
“We are very excited to connect Monterrey with such an important international hub as New York, especially for 2026 when thousands of national and international tourists will be looking for comfortable and affordable ways to travel between Mexico and the United States.
With this connection, we are raising the profile of the city where we were born, allowing residents of Monterrey to fly to a new international destination for vacations, to visit family, or to conduct business.”
This new route will allow international travelers to use Nuevo León as a connecting point to other domestic destinations, taking advantage of the network of routes operating from the Nuevo León International Airport.
With this addition, the state’s air connectivity is strengthened in the context of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
