The woman found unconscious on the road to Bagdad Beach has been identified as 90-year-old Nilda Perales Ramos. The Attorney General’s Office is investigating a possible case of abandonment, and her family has been located.
Today, the case of the elderly woman found abandoned on the road to Bagdad Beach is beginning to be clarified, although questions remain. She is a 90-year-old woman who had been reported missing in Texas five months ago, and her discovery prompted a binational investigation.
Who is the elderly woman found on the road to Bagdad Beach?
Authorities confirmed that the woman found unconscious at kilometer 15 of the road to Bagdad Beach has been identified as Nilda Perales Ramos, approximately 90 years old, originally from Laredo, Texas.
The discovery occurred after the woman was found on the side of the road in critical condition, having been exposed to the cold and rain. She was immediately transferred to a hospital in Matamoros, where she remains hospitalized under medical observation.
Authorities from the Matamoros DIF (National System for Integral Family Development) confirmed her identity and stated that, due to her initial unconscious state, it was not possible to obtain personal information directly from her, which delayed her identification.
How long had she been missing, and how was her family located?
According to initial investigations, Nilda Perales Ramos had been reported missing in the United States for approximately five months. This information was corroborated after contacting authorities and family members in Texas.
A key element in identifying her was the dissemination of the case on social media and in the news. In particular, a post made on July 3 on Instagram, through the account @rsolloa19, under the name Rebecca Solloa, requested assistance in locating the elderly woman.
The message indicated that Nilda had crossed into Mexico on June 12, the date from which all contact with her was lost. It also mentioned that she had previously been hospitalized in Laredo and requested assistance in searching for her in hospitals in Monterrey and other cities across the country.
After the information was disseminated, users began commenting that the woman had been located in Matamoros. Later, it was confirmed that the family had been notified and was in communication with local authorities, although no further details about the process had been made public.
Was she abandoned, and what is the Prosecutor’s Office investigating?
The Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office has an open investigation to determine how Nilda Perales Ramos arrived in Matamoros and who abandoned her at that point on the highway.
DIF (National System for Integral Family Development) authorities did not rule out the possibility that the woman may have been medicated to keep her unconscious, although this line of investigation is still in its preliminary stages and must be confirmed through medical and forensic examinations.
The case has been formally referred to the Attorney General’s Office, which is coordinating with U.S. authorities due to the prior report of the disappearance and the possible irregular transfer of the elderly woman between the two countries.
For the time being, authorities have stated that the absolute priority is the recovery of Ms. Nilda’s health, with the goal of stabilizing her condition and, if possible, enabling her to provide information that will help fully clarify the facts.
