Five men were arrested in Acaponeta, Nayarit, following an operation in which a large cache of weapons and ammunition was seized. In a related operation, authorities also located homemade explosives and vehicles inside a property that was already under guard.
The arrests occurred this Wednesday. The detainees were found in possession of five rifles, 23 magazines, 660 rounds of ammunition, and two tactical vests. A search was also conducted at a previously secured property, with support from the Attorney General’s Office. There, four long guns, two vehicles, a motorcycle, two improvised explosive devices, as well as additional magazines and tactical vests were found.
The detainees and all the seized items were turned over to the authorities for further investigation. The discovery of explosives and high-powered weaponry has once again raised concerns among the public: the risk posed by armed groups moving this type of equipment near communities and roads.
