More than 518,000 signatures validated to begin the recall referendum process in Oaxaca

This amount represents 86.06% of the signatures submitted to the electoral body and exceeds the 10% required.

In an urgent extraordinary session, electoral councilor Jessica Jazibe Hernández García stated that the process is at a “very important” stage, as it is the first time it will be carried out at the federal level.

“It is extremely important to note that, both in the recall law and in our guidelines issued for the recall of elected officials, we are already listening to and, if necessary, analyzing the report presented by the executive secretary of this institute,” she emphasized.

She added that there will be a verification process to ensure the requirements for the request are met.

“The Executive Secretariat, in conjunction with the executive directorate of prerogatives, political parties, and independent candidates, will prepare a report on the results of the review of the citizens listed on the voter registration list,” she added.

He indicated that the forms must include the number of citizens who signed the petition and their percentage, as well as the number of citizens who signed but are not on the voter registration list.

In that regard, the catalog of radio and television programs that broadcast news and will be subject to general monitoring was approved, as well as the catalog of print and digital media outlets that disseminate news online for this process.

Furthermore, the report on the results of the verification of citizen support, submitted by the head of the Executive Secretariat to the General Council of the IEEPCO (Oaxaca State Electoral Institute), was presented.

He confirmed that valid support was duly distributed across 569 of the 570 municipalities in the state of Oaxaca, fulfilling the minimum territorial dispersion requirement stipulated in the Oaxaca State Law on Recall Elections and the Guidelines.

The governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, celebrated the report issued by the Executive Secretariat of the IEEPCO (Oaxaca State Electoral Institute), stating that the requirements for holding the recall referendum have been met.

“We will remain attentive to the development and progress of this democratic process. Since the beginning of the Oaxacan Spring, I have promoted the recall referendum, convinced that democracy must be fully exercised,” he commented.

On his social media account, he said that “with this type of exercise, the people win, democracy wins, and citizen participation is strengthened.”

In that regard, the ordinary elections for council members in the following municipalities were declared legally valid:

Magdalena Apasco, San Miguel Achiutla, San Carlos Yautepec, San Francisco Lachigoló, San Jerónimo Taviche, San Raymundo Jalpan, Santa Cruz de Bravo, Tataltepec de Valdés, Asunción Cacalotepec, San Francisco Cajonos, San Martín Tilcajete, San Sebastián Río Hondo, Santa María Tataltepec, Santiago Texcalcingo, Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón, Guadalupe Etla, Nazareno Etla, San Juan Lachigalla, San Bernardo Mixtepec, San Agustín Tlacotepec, San Dionisio Ocotepec, San Juan Chilateca, San Juan Cieneguilla, San Juan Guelavía, San Juan Tepeuxila, San Lucas Quiaviní, San Mateo Nejápam, San Miguel El Grande, San Miguel Tilquiápam, San Pedro el Alto, and Santa Catarina Yosonotú, Santa María Chimalapa, Santa María Guienagati, Santo Tomás Jalieza, Sitio de Xitlapehua, Teotitlán del Valle, and Villa Hidalgo Yalálag.

In addition, the general council declared the ordinary elections for council members in the municipalities of San Luis Amatlán, San Ildefonso Villa Alta, Santo Domingo Yanhuitlán, Tamazulápam del Espíritu Santo, San Pablo Cuatro Venados, and San Sebastián Nicananduta partially valid.
