Given the increased traffic in the state due to the holiday season, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation has listed the most dangerous stretches of highway for drivers.

The most dangerous roads in the state are the Chihuahua-Juárez highway (especially the federal sections at kilometers 47, 65, and 100) and the Juárez-Janos highway, due to the high accident rate, severe deterioration, and the perceptions of both citizens and insurance companies, the federal agency points out.

It is noteworthy that 85 percent of accidents on the Chihuahua-Juárez highway occur between kilometers 32 and 151 (70 accidents in 2025), damaging the infrastructure and making it a focus of urgent attention for state and federal authorities.

The state of Chihuahua remains in eighth place nationally for highway accidents so far this year, with an estimated 456 serious incidents on its federal highway network, resulting in 124 deaths and 301 injuries, according to official statistics.

Furthermore, the state ranks second nationally in traffic fatality rate per 100,000 inhabitants, nearly three times the national average.
Among the causes of traffic accidents, poor pavement conditions and lack of maintenance stand out. Additionally, reports from citizens and highway authorities indicate that, in some cases, vehicles travel at speeds exceeding 150 kilometers per hour (km/h), surpassing the 100 km/h speed limit.

Throughout this year, multiple preventative alerts and road closures have been issued at points near the highway, such as kilometers 154 to 166, due to weather conditions and accidents.

Meanwhile, the most dangerous highways in Mexico include Federal Highway 57, considered one of the most critical in the sections between San Luis Potosí and Querétaro, as well as from Reynosa to Monterrey, which has high levels of robberies and kidnappings.
Highway 45D (Mexico City-Ciudad Juárez), along with Highway 57, accounted for 27 percent of electronic merchandise thefts in the third quarter of 2025. The Mexico City-Puebla and Mexico City-Querétaro highways register a high incidence of robberies, especially at their connections to the Arco Norte (Northern Ring Road).
Also considered dangerous are the Puebla-Córdoba and Cumbres de Maltrata highways, which are high-risk areas due to both violent robberies and traffic accidents, and the Toluca-Mexico City highway, one of the most dangerous due to traffic incidents. In addition, other sections of highways in states such as Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas have been mentioned by the United States government as areas of high general risk for travel.
