Security in Los Cabos and La Paz remains positive

In a recent interview with media outlets in Los Cabos, the governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, stated that the municipalities of Los Cabos and La Paz have regained a sense of security, which was lost during the first half of the year due to crimes related to organized crime.

The governor recently met with Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, where they agreed to reinforce strategies to strengthen security in the northern part of the state, especially in the municipality of Loreto, which has seen an increase in high-impact crimes.

“With Omar García, we are currently prioritizing Comondú and Loreto. I’m not just saying this; the facts speak for themselves. Since May, there haven’t been any major incidents; it’s been months now. They are among the safest places,” he said.

According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, Baja California Sur has registered 127 intentional homicides and 6 femicides. More than 4,000 robberies and more than 3,000 cases of domestic violence were reported, with May, June, and July seeing the highest incidence.

The governor reiterated that all three levels of government are working together to maintain security in the south, given its importance to the tourism industry.

“If something serious happens in Los Cabos, it becomes national news. Los Cabos has national importance that must be acknowledged, and security is a priority for Christian Agúndez, for myself, and especially for Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, who is doing an extraordinary job.”
