The Chamber of Deputies authorized an expenditure of nearly 100 million pesos to cover toll payments for its 500 legislators during the 2025–2027 term.
According to contract LXVI-DGAJ-094/2024, the deputies of the LXVI Legislature will not pay out of pocket for tolls on the country’s highways during that period.
The agreement was signed with the company E&I Movilidad México and includes the delivery of 550 electronic TAG devices, 50 more than the total number of legislators.
The contract amounts to 97,392,000 pesos and will be in effect from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027. Each TAG device has a unit cost of 65 pesos.
The General Directorate of Material Resources was responsible for contracting E&I Movilidad México to provide automatic toll collection services using Easytrip TAG electronic devices.
According to the contract, “these devices are assigned to legislators, parliamentary groups, administrative units, and other public servants in accordance with the Chamber’s current internal regulations, with the objective of supporting ground transportation services.”
The document detailed that in 2025, the expenditure for this item was 30 million pesos; 32.4 million pesos were budgeted for 2026, and an expenditure of 34.992 million pesos is projected for 2027.
Political experts pointed out that this expenditure contrasts sharply with the calls for austerity and budget cuts promoted by the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), which have impacted other sectors considered priorities.
Finally, they warned that legislators from different political parties use these public resources to carry out political proselytizing activities, which has reinforced the public perception of preferential treatment towards the political class.
