Carlos Alejandro Bautista Tafolla, a local deputy in Michoacán affiliated with the Sombrero Movement (but running as an independent), announced that he will request U.S. assistance in clarifying the murder of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1st during a cultural event.

In San Diego, California, Bautista Tafolla stated in a post that he will not rest until he finds the masterminds behind Manzo’s murder. However, the legislator’s message left questions about what kind of support he will request and from which U.S. authorities he will ask.

“I will be pressing the United States to help us clarify the facts surrounding the murder of Carlos Manzo. I swear I will not rest until I have exhausted all possible avenues to find those responsible,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The Michoacán native emphasized that he decided to travel to the United States on Christmas Eve so that the 23 bodyguards assigned to him by the federal and state governments could be with their families during the holiday season.

“This time I won’t be spending the holidays with my parents, nor my birthday, because staying there would mean that the 23 bodyguards wouldn’t be spending the holidays with their families,” Bautista Tafolla explained.
