The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has a presence in the municipality of Coahuayana, Michoacán, and more details about its operations have recently come to light.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, responsible for a car bomb attack in the town of Coahuayana, was seen in videos moving through the mountainous region of the neighboring municipality of Chinicuila.

In the first recording, captured by a drone, the armed group is seen in one of the settlements that regional security authorities have identified as a drug camp.

The images show at least twenty members of this criminal cell among ravines, clearings, and wooden shelters in the mountainous area of the municipality where they control the territory.

In another video, recorded at that location between Cerro de Copala and La Sierrita, near the town of El Órgano in the municipality of Chinicuila, the movement of this criminal organization on foot and in vehicles is clearly visible.

Federal security authorities acknowledged that the operations in this area have been prolonged because the criminal group led by Abraham Jesús Amador Cano, alias “El Yogur,” has a social base and enjoys the support of the municipal authorities of Chinicuila, over whom the CNG cartel exerts control.

Reports from regional security authorities, provided to federal forces, reveal that this criminal cell also operates the El Sípimo gold mine, also in the municipality of Chinicuila.

Furthermore, their offensives and areas of operation have expanded to Cerro de la Aguja, El Otate, and La Naranja in the municipality of Aquila.

A new armed attack, using monster trucks and explosives, was nearly carried out in the municipal seat of Coahuayana.

However, a joint operation by the Community Police, the Michoacán Public Security Secretariat (SSP), and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) thwarted this latest offensive.

The SSP reported that it secured a warehouse in the municipality of Coahuayana used for the manufacture of vehicles with improvised armor.

Inside the building, eight vehicles were found, including two monster trucks.

Following up on analysis and intelligence work, personnel from the Specialized Investigation Sub-Secretariat accompanied a search warrant, which was executed by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

This took place at a property located on Bugambilias Street in the Centro neighborhood, where they also seized 47 plastic bags, presumably containing substances with characteristics of methamphetamine, and two containing marijuana.

The seized vehicles were in the process of being manufactured to be equipped with improvised armor.

All the vehicles, along with the seized narcotics, were turned over to the appropriate authorities to continue the ongoing investigations.

Local security sources indicated that the warehouse was operated by the CNG (Cartel Género) with the help of some residents of that municipality in the Sierra-Costa region, who are already under investigation and being pursued.

They revealed that in addition to cloning some institutional security logos, the criminals were also equipping the armored trucks with deadly bumpers and steel spikes.

They explained that these vehicles were part of a new attack plan in the municipal seat of Coahuayana, which was to be accompanied by an armed offensive using explosives.

The Attorney General of Michoacán, Carlos Torres Piña, clarified that, based on the platform and investigations, no member of the Community Police has a criminal record or any indication of having committed a crime.

They confirmed that they are legally registered as a municipal security force and that only the current mayor can remove or disband the organization.

The Citizens’ Council of the municipality of Coahuayana thanked its Community Police and the state and federal forces for reinforcing the security of its residents.

Furthermore, in a statement, they maintained that “Coahuayana is not a violent town; it is a town that strives for peace.”

“The people of Coahuayana support and appreciate the work carried out by Commander Héctor Zepeda Navarrete and the Coahuayana Community Police. This effort, spanning more than a decade, has yielded positive results and has consistently ensured peace, tranquility, and above all, freedom for our community.”

The document, dated Tuesday, December 23, further emphasizes: “We also extend our gratitude to the security institutions, the Mexican Army, the Navy, the National Guard, and the Civil Guard, for their coordinated efforts in addressing the security needs of our municipality. Security is a task that requires a greater effort. That is why, today and always, the people of Coahuayana support this important work.”
