The victim was airlifted to the Tamazula General Hospital, but arrived deceased with multiple injuries; the alleged assailant fled and remains at large.
A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in the municipality of Tamazula, becoming the first femicide of the year in Durango. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 1st, inside the victim’s home.
The attack was carried out with stab wounds, causing multiple injuries to the victim’s abdomen, hands, chest, and neck. Following the incident, the woman was airlifted from the community of El Durazno to the Tamazula General Hospital, where she arrived without vital signs.
The alleged perpetrator, her husband, fled. Despite a police operation deployed for his capture, he has not yet been apprehended.
Julieta Hernández Camargo, activist and president of the Sí Hay Mujeres en Durango (Yes, There Are Women in Durango) association, indicated that the case presents all the characteristics of a femicide, since the victim was brutally attacked after the aggressor consumed alcohol.
Hernández Camargo noted that Durango has 16 municipalities under a Gender Violence Alert. Last year, no femicides were reported in January; however, by the end of 2025, 11 murders of women had been registered, six of which were officially classified as femicides by the state Attorney General’s Office.
