The influx of tourists to the community of Isla de la Piedra, located across the waterway from Mazatlán, has been steady during the December holidays thanks to the warm weather experienced around midday.
This was the opinion of César Lizárraga Campoy, representative of the Union of Boatmen who provide transportation to the community, who said he was surprised by the number of visitors who have come daily to explore and enjoy the tranquil beaches of Isla de la Piedra.
We suggest: Fishermen of Isla de la Piedra in Mazatlán had a “breather” during the last two days of 2025
He mentioned that after Christmas, the number of people at the pier increased, and from operating at only 20 percent capacity, the boats rose to 75 percent. Most of these were domestic tourists who, when buying their tickets, generally inquired about the activities available in this fishing village, whose beaches with gentle waves are considered among the most beautiful in Mazatlán.
“From 20 percent, we’re now at 70 to 75 percent. It increased somewhat because we don’t operate like this during the holidays. It’s been good. Locals, lately, have been few. It’s all tourists. The peak time, as everyone calls it, at the beaches is 11:00 in the morning.”
César Lizárraga Campoy mentioned that the Boatmen’s Union has nine boats operating, each with a capacity of 40 people. They depart from the dock every 10 minutes to cross the navigation channel, a journey that is itself an attraction for visitors.
He added that currently few residents of the community are traveling to the city because it’s the holiday season, so it’s primarily tourists who use their services.
How much does it cost to board a boat to Isla de la Piedra?
