According to the State Public Security Secretariat, the seizures were carried out as part of the National Strategy against Extortion, through inter-agency operations deployed in various regions of the state.
Morelia accounted for the largest number of seizures with 1,121 machines, followed by Uruapan with 544 and Apatzingán with 408. Seizures were also made in Lázaro Cárdenas, Zitácuaro, Zamora, Pátzcuaro, Maravatío, Tacámbaro, Huandacareo, and Sahuayo.
Authorities reported that all the machines were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding investigations to determine their origin and possible connection to illicit activities.
Once the legal processes were completed, the equipment was destroyed in accordance with current regulations to prevent its reuse. The SSP urged citizens not to normalize the presence of these types of devices, as they are often linked to extortion schemes.
