With great success and more than one thousand people registered, the Carrera 911 was held this Saturday in Uruapan. The event brought together families, female and male runners, and personnel from various security institutions to strengthen prevention, reporting, and citizen participation in combating the crime of extortion.
At the start of the event, Secretary of Public Security José Antonio Cruz Medina highlighted that the gathering provides an opportunity to create spaces for community interaction and strengthen bonds of trust between citizens and the institutions responsible for security.
Contingents from the Secretariats of National Defense (Defense), Navy (Navy), and Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), as well as the National Guard (GN), State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), Civil Guard, and Kuarichas participated in the race. Their members ran the five-kilometer course alongside citizens as part of this awareness campaign.
In the women’s category, the top places went to Natali Naomi Mendoza Murguía, Fryshna Vianney Santaclara Caño, and Elva Alejandra Muñoz Ángel, all from Uruapan. In the men’s category, first place went to Julio César Guzmán Cázares, from Pátzcuaro, followed by Francisco Javier Flores Ramírez, from Uruapan, and Fernando Salinas Castro, from Morelia.
At the conclusion of the competition, the head of the SSP emphasized that beyond the times and positions, the event provided a day of sports, community interaction, and citizen participation, where institutions and citizens shared the same space.
“My recognition goes to those who are on the podium today, but also to every runner who crossed this finish line. Thank you to all the departments and institutions that made this race possible. Congratulations to the winners,” the state official said.
The Carrera 911 is part of the prevention initiatives promoted by the Government of Michoacán to strengthen engagement with citizens and promote the campaign “Hang Up, Verify, and Dial 089,” which focuses on preventing extortion and encouraging anonymous reporting.
