The municipal president said she maintains communication with the president through messages, but considers it necessary to speak with her in person to address issues related to Uruapan
Grecia Quiroz, mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, insisted that she is seeking a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in her capacity as a public official, not as an aspiring candidate for the state governorship in the upcoming 2027 elections.
After Sheinbaum rejected having a personal conversation with the mayor because of her pursuit of a public office, Quiroz explained in an interview with Azucena Uresti that her request concerns issues of interest related to the municipality.
“First, at this moment I am the substitute municipal president, which means that there are things that the municipality often requires,” she said.

The mayor acknowledged that Uruapan has received support from the federal government through the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, and the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez; however, she maintained that this does not replace direct dialogue with the president.
“As president, I believe I have the right to be able to approach her, as that public figure or representation that I have at this moment,” she stated.
She also reiterated that she maintains communication by message with the president and that she has had several approaches with Harfuch, who has responded to her requests to meet, but said: “I also believe that she should hear me directly.”
In view of this, she did not rule out continuing to insist on a meeting with President Sheinbaum to address matters of interest related to the public positions they both currently hold.
“I do not want her, in any way, to think that I am her political enemy, far from it,” she clarified, adding that her interest in ensuring that Uruapan does well “also concerns her.”
Quiroz notified Sheinbaum of her visit to the FGR: her main interest is clarifying Manzo’s murder
Grecia Quiroz also recalled that this Tuesday she sent a message to the president informing her that she would go to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Mexico City to request that it take over the investigation file into the murder of her husband, Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, which occurred on November 1, 2025.
In the message, she made it known that she expected a positive response from the authorities and that she considered it urgent for the FGR to take over the case because she had observed political interests surrounding it.
In recent weeks, she has been accused by both Juan Manzo, her husband’s brother, and Yesenia Méndez, a former municipal official, of allegedly being connected to Carlos Manzo’s murder.
“The most important thing is that as quickly as possible the Attorney General’s Office can take over the investigation file into Carlos’s homicide,” she said.
She contacted the prosecutor months ago but has not received a response
The mayor also explained that approximately seven or eight months ago she sent a message to the Attorney General of the Republic, Ernestina Godoy Ramos, requesting that she take over the investigation file into Carlos Manzo’s murder. She received a response saying that it would be reviewed, but afterward there was no further communication from her.
“I want to make it clear that I (…) had sent a message to Prosecutor Ernestina. She did respond to me, and at that time I was requesting that she take over the investigation file. The only thing she replied was that she was going to review it. However, from then on I have not had the opportunity to have a conversation or receive another response from her,” she stated in response to claims that she was allegedly opposing a comprehensive investigation of the case.
She explained that before submitting the request for the FGR to take over the Manzo case this Tuesday, she also notified the prosecutor about what she was going to do.
“I also let her know yesterday that I had submitted that document, where legally, not just verbally, but legally with articles and reasons showing that it is already within the federal government’s jurisdiction to take over the case, I made that request respectfully,” she explained.
Finally, Quiroz accused those involved of “meddling extensively” in the investigation file, saying that it was already being used politically in many respects, which was the last thing she wanted. This motivated her to personally make the request before the FGR.
“Yes, it is important that it now be handled at the federal level. I want to make that clear, that it be placed in a neutral setting where there are no political interests involved,” she maintained.
