Disappearance of people in Baja California Sur is a cause for concern.

The disappearance of people in the state of Baja California Sur has not been the only fear its residents have faced throughout 2025; theft, in its various forms, was another concern that impacted the peace of mind of the people of Baja California Sur.

While disappearances increased by more than 200 percent, rising from 78 documented cases to 211 in the last 11 months, nearly 4,800 investigations were opened for theft.

Data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System established that the public prosecutor’s office opened a total of 4,793 investigations, primarily in the municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos.

Analysis of the information reveals that the southern part of the state has the highest concentration of crimes committed; for example, Los Cabos reached 2,225 robberies, while La Paz documented 2,000 criminal incidents.

The sum of these two figures represents more than 90 percent of all robberies committed in 2025 in the state, governed by Víctor Manuel Castro Cossío, who recently admitted that the disappearance of persons remains a problem in the state.

In the northern municipalities of Mulegé and Comondú, the numbers showed 164 and 234 crimes, respectively, in the last year.

In Loreto, the number of investigations remained at 67.

These crime statistics have forced security authorities in Baja California Sur to reinforce preventative measures for both residents and visitors during a season in which property crimes and traffic offenses historically increase.

Furthermore, the same figures from the Secretariat have indicated that disappearances of minors are on the rise in the state.

Around 1,200 people are missing as of today in Baja California Sur.
