The Metropolitan Infrastructure Agency for Mobility and the Jalisco Ministry of Transportation reiterated that speed limits on roads in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area are established in the State Law on Mobility, Road Safety, and Transportation, in effect since 2022.
Authorities emphasized that speed is the main risk factor for deaths and injuries in traffic accidents, and therefore the use of radar and photo enforcement is an effective measure to reduce accidents.
According to the regulations, the limit is 30 kilometers per hour on secondary roads, 50 kilometers per hour on primary roads, and up to 80 kilometers per hour in the center lanes of controlled-access avenues.
They also clarified that radars are currently configured for speeds of 60 kilometers per hour, which is why fines are only issued to those who exceed that limit by more than 10 kilometers per hour.
They added that the speed limit changes will be implemented gradually as traffic signs are standardized, a process that has already begun in municipalities like Zapopan, and will be accompanied by a public awareness and education campaign.
What are the most expensive traffic fines in Jalisco?
Some of the behaviors penalized under state law include the following:
It states, “driving with license plates totally or partially obscured by any object or material that prevents the full identification of the license plate numbers, or with any plate that has been altered.”
It also includes participating in street races, illegal street racing, stunts, risky or reckless maneuvers that endanger the lives of the person performing them and all other road users.
Another prohibition is using exclusive and restricted lanes for public transportation and contraflow lanes, as well as crossing these lanes without respecting traffic signs.
