The Wahoo Classic International Sport Fishing Tournament will be held in January 2026 in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, just under a month after the 2025 California Fishing Tournament, another recent addition to the region’s sport fishing calendar.

The event not only focuses on sport fishing but also seeks to commemorate Pablo Sánchez-Navarro, a young entrepreneur involved in the region’s cultural and tourism development.

When will the Wahoo Classic International Tournament 2026 take place?

The tournament will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, with the starting gun firing at 7:00 a.m. from the breakwaters of Marina Puerto Los Cabos, in the La Playa district of San José del Cabo.

This edition will feature cash prizes, trophies, and passes to an international final, as well as various competition formats designed for boats of different sizes.

Although the main objective is to catch wahoo, participants can also compete in optional jackpots for dorado and tuna. The event is open to the public; no special invitation is required, and registration is all that’s needed to participate.

The prize pool will consist of 50% of the total registration fees, which will be distributed among the winning categories.

Confirmed prizes include:

First place: 150,000 pesos and a trophy

Second place: 100,000 pesos and a trophy

Third place: 50,000 pesos and a trophy

In addition, five passes to the grand final, “Fishing in the Five,” will be awarded as an extra incentive for the top-performing teams.

Sport fishing is not only a competitive activity but also a recreational one, and in places like Loreto, there are many species to catch, making it a popular option for both tournament participants and those simply looking to enjoy themselves on the water.

How to register for the Wahoo Classic International Tournament 2026?

Registration will take place on Saturday, January 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., directly at Marina Puerto Los Cabos, in the town of La Playa.

The registration fee depends on the size of the boat:

Who was Pablo Sánchez-Navarro, and why is the tournament held in his memory?

Pablo Sánchez-Navarro was a businessman and cultural promoter who lived in Los Cabos and passed away in 2017 at the age of 33. He was the son of Eduardo Sánchez Navarro and Carolina Sánchez Navarro, from a family known in the region for promoting tourism and cultural projects.

He was the founder and owner of Hotel El Ganzo, a boutique hotel with an unusual concept: blending hospitality, art, and music. Artists stayed there in exchange for leaving artwork, which transformed the place into a vibrant creative space. Creators such as Pedro Reyes, Aldo Chaparro, and José Dávila graced its rooms.

His love for fishing and the ocean gave rise to a special tribute, the Wahoo Classic International Tournament, held in his memory as a way to remember him through the sea.

And for those just starting out, La Paz also offers beaches where recreational fishing is possible, an accessible option for getting into this activity without participating in tournaments.
