On Monday, January 12, approximately 150,000 elementary and middle school students from 1,200 schools in 11 municipalities of the Laguna Region of Durango will return to classes after the December holidays.
As a reminder, preschool, elementary, and middle school students in this state had their last day of classes before the holiday break on December 17, two days earlier than the official start date established in the 2025-2026 SEP (Ministry of Public Education) School Calendar.
The return to classes will take place under a forecast of cold weather. According to specialists, cold front number 27 will arrive with intensity in northern Mexico and will begin affecting the region on Sunday, January 11. There is a 60% chance of rain on Monday, January 12. It is already predicted to be one of the coldest days of the season, with a low of 3 degrees Celsius and a high of 12 degrees Celsius.
However, Ulises Adame de León, Undersecretary of Education for the Laguna Region, reiterated that classes will resume next Monday to continue the 2025-2026 school year; in other words, there is no suspension of school activities at this time.
“Everyone returns on Monday. Everyone knows that if the temperature doesn’t reach 0 degrees Celsius, it’s the parent’s decision whether to dress their child warmly and send them to school, and if it drops below zero, then we make a recommendation,” the Undersecretary of Education stated.
